Some 45 miles west of Fort William, as the wee road from Acharacle (3 miles) to Dorlin winds down the hill to its end at the shore, you come to Gardener's Cottage.

It stands in its own grass garden sheltered by trees behind, with a fabulous view of Castle Tioram on an island in the bay.
On the 9,000 acre Lochshiel Estate, in some of the most glorious coastal and mountain scenery on Scotland's west coast, this detached Victorian dwelling has now been charmingly refurbished to a very high standard and offers warm and extremely comfortable accommodation which cannot fail to please.
The cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove is linked to the spacious dining room by a smart, modern kitchen - a most practical and attractive arrangement. The elegant wood flooring testifies again to the quality of the accommodation and the cottage is double glazed and well insulated throughout.
On the upper level are two excellent bedrooms, a double and a twin and a newly fitted bathroom.
In such a setting, you may expect to see a wonderful array of wildlife and you will not be disappointed. Otters, seals, deer, osprey, buzzards and eagles all make this area their home.
There are many pleasant hill and coastal walks to be enjoyed and sandy beaches that are ideal for children to play. Trout fishing on the estate is available by arrangement.
If all this is still not enough, the whole Ardnamurchan peninsula awaits your exploration. To the north you can join the 'Road to the Isles' for the silver sands of Morar, the idyllic golf course at Traigh, or to take the ferry from Mallaig (35 miles) across to Skye. To the south, turn right at Salen to Kilchoan (24 miles), from where you can cross to the Isle of Mull for the day and yet another legendary beach at Sanna.
For practicalities, the nearest supermarkets of any size are at Fort William. Acharacle has an excellent general store, bakers and a Post Office. For eating out, there are hotels both there and at Salen just 4 miles or so further down the road.
