Perched 500 feet above the Sound of Mull on the Morvern Peninsula, Achleanan Farmhouse offers stunning, panoramic views of the mountains of Mull and the Atlantic beyond. On clear evenings, the twinkling lights of Tobermory across the Sound are the only reminder that you're not alone on earth.

Surrounded by green pastures and heather moorland, the farm is home to Scottish Blackface sheep, Highland and Luing cattle, and roe and red deer. A historic stone flax tank stands behind the house, a nod to the farm’s linen-producing past.
Restored to a high standard, the traditional stone farmhouse combines rustic charm with modern comforts. The spacious sitting room, clad in pine panelling, features a wood-burning stove—perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure, perhaps with a complimentary dram of local Nc'nean whisky. The bright, well-equipped kitchen opens into a garden room with a large dining table and wicker chairs, ideal for soaking up the ever-changing sea views.
On the ground floor, you'll find a twin bedroom, a shower room, and a handy utility room for storing outdoor gear. Upstairs, the cosy double bedroom with a king-size bed and the twin bedroom both boast coombed ceilings and sea views. The family bathroom includes a bath with an overhead shower, and double glazing and central heating ensure the house is welcoming year-round.
Outside, the enclosed garden is a safe space for children to play, while you relax and enjoy the scenery. Eagles often soar above, and red deer can sometimes be seen on the slopes. After sunset, the dark skies are perfect for stargazing, with the Northern Lights occasionally making an appearance.
The 7000-acre estate offers endless outdoor activities, from walking and cycling across its vast landscapes to beachcombing and otter spotting along the shore. Ancient woodlands are home to pine martens and red squirrels, and fishing enthusiasts can try their luck for free along the shoreline or at two seasonal brown trout lochans.
On rainy days, the nearby shared games room offers entertainment with a pool table, table tennis, a dartboard, and exercise equipment. Achleanan Farmhouse is an ideal base for both adventure and relaxation, set in one of Scotland’s most spectacular locations.
Situated in the 7,000 acres of the private Drimnin Estate, Achleanan is a place of great tranquillity, with the nearest habitation half a mile away.
Guests have access to the Estate's eight miles of coastline, its moors, valleys and native woodland and the historic ruins of a Victorian chapel, Stone Age fort and walled crofting village.
Golden and sea eagles, pine martens and otters can all be seen on the Estate. For the active, there are plenty of walks within the Estate - over hills, along the private track to the old ferry inn on Loch Sunart and around the coast.
There is a ferry which plies back and forth every day from Lochaline (11 miles, with hotel and restaurant) over to Fishnish on Mull (no booking necessary). With such easy access, a visit must be high on the to-do list of any guests in this part of the world. The crossing is short (20 minutes) and from Fishnish an excellent road leads north to the capital Tobermory, with its brightly painted houses clustering round the picturesque harbour. From there, you can continue across to the wonderful beach at Calgary.
To the south from Fishnish, a single track road runs right round the southern part of the island to Fionnphort at the end of the Ross of Mull, where you take the little foot ferry over to the magical island of Iona, with its ancient abbey and silver sands. This journey takes just over an hour and runs through some very wild and impressive scenery.
On the other hand, turning north at Lochaline and westwards on rejoining the A861, another most beautiful road takes you through the oakwoods along the north shore of Loch Sunart. It brings you to the Ardnamurchan peninsula, where you can visit the Stevenson lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula or laze on the sands at Sanna. The tip of the peninsula is the most westerly point on the British mainland and is the ideal place to try and spot the dolphins, basking sharks and even the occasional minke whale that are often seen there.
