Lochhead Cottage stands quite alone right on the foreshore of lovely Loch Sunart, shortly after you branch off the Ardnamurchan road to head down to Lochaline (16 miles) and the ferry to the Isle of Mull.

All the cottages on the Estate are of a high standard and Lochhead is no exception. It is a typical stone-built Highland cottage whose traditional whitewashed exterior is belied by the 21st century comforts within.
The cosy sitting room has an open fire, so you can relax in comfort with a whisky after a day in the hills, on the water or wherever. Throughout, it has been tastefully decorated and furnished and the sitting room in particular is very restful and welcoming, with its bright rug, comfortable seating and attractive pictures on the walls.
There is a spacious and well-fitted kitchen diner that has a cheerful yellow décor that gives the whole room a sunny glow. There is a shower room downstairs and upstairs are double and twin bedrooms. There are wonderful views across the loch to the mountains of Moidart and Sunart beyond.
Outside is no less attractive. The large, fenced grass garden (with furniture) is perfect for sitting out on a sunny day and for both children and pets to play (though there is terracing and a drop behind the cottage). Parking is in a little private parking bay to the front. Sheep often forage on the rocky foreshore just across the little road, another spot of local colour and you may even see deer walking past, or on the hill behind.
Lochhead is on the Laudale Estate and fishing may be available in the area. It goes without saying that this is a walkers' paradise. Yet for all its peace, it is not so very remote.
You can be at the Ardgour ferry in 20 minutes, which will take you over to the main road to Fort William, just a further 8 miles away. There, you can climb Ben Nevis, take the steam train to Mallaig, golf, ride, walk along Neptune's Staircase at Corpach and do your shopping too. The nearest village to the cottage is Strontian (3 miles) which has hotels, a well-stocked general store and a very handy bistro.
Turning south from the Ardgour Ferry, you will quickly reach Glencoe, for more amazing, climbing, walking and skiing in winter. Fun for all the family can be had at the Ice Factor at Kinlochleven, with ice climbing, rock climbing, an aerial adventure course and children’s play area. A few miles down the road from Ballachulish (with hotel and golf course) is pretty Port Appin, with riding at Lettershuna and the iconic Castle Stalker in the bay. Oban itself is accessible from Strontian in well under two hours.
From Strontian, you can head right out to Ardnamurchan Point, where there are lovely beaches at nearby Sanna. The Isle of Mull, which is full of attractions, is just a short drive away via the ferry at Lochaline. The ferry plies back and forth all day and no booking is necessary.
