Invermoriston
The little hamlet of Invermoriston is set in the heart of the Great Glen in the Highlands with a handy general store and a hotel restaurant for nights off from cooking or bar meals during the day. There is an array of wildlife to look out for in the surrounding area with pine martens, ospreys and even eagles having been spotted.
Walkers can try part of the Great Glen Way long distance path that passes through Invermoriston. The route runs all the way from Fort William, right up Loch Ness to Inverness and is 79 miles in total. It can also be cycled for those that prefer being on two wheels.
The River Moriston flows through Invermoriston and out into Loch Ness dropping down the Invermoriston Falls along the way which can be best viewed from the modern road bridge that crosses the river. The hamlet is well placed for exploring further afield as it is only an hour and a half’s drive from Kyle of Lochalsh from which it is an easy drive over the bridge to the ever popular Isle of Skye.
