Bridge of Orchy
Bridge of Orchy is a tiny village three miles north of Tyndrum on the road to Glencoe and Fort William. With a hotel and railway halt, it is right on the West Highland Way, surrounded by imposing mountains. Wth Glencoe just up the road across the lonely Rannoch Moor, it really is an excellent base for those who come to climb, walk or ski (in winter).
There is also good fishing to be had in the surrounding lochs, while the River Orchy is a popular destination for white water kayakers. In the other direction it is also within an easy hour’s drive of Loch Lomond, while the road splits at Tyndrum to carry you to Oban, also just over an hour away. Tyndrum has shops, fuel and eating places and is also where enthusiasts come to pan for gold in the local river!
