Kenmore

The conservation village of Kenmore sits at the eastern end of Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire. It is set just alongside the River Tay, the longest river in Scotland, which is renowned for its Atlantic salmon fishing that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Kenmore is very picturesque with its pretty white harled buildings and boats bobbing out in the loch and the restaurant in the Kenmore Hotel always makes a very welcome pit stop. The village's lochside location makes it a popular spot for watersports with canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding to try out or even hiring a boat or pedalo.

In and Around Kenmore

Scottish Crannog Centre

Something to definitely add to the holiday agenda is a visit to the Scottish Crannog Centre that sits on wooden stilts out in Loch Tay. It is a reconstruction of what would have been one of a number of crannogs that used to stand out in the water, most of which are now submerged. The crannog houses a fascinating museum with thousands of artefacts and knowledgeable guides that explain the history. There is also the chance to try out some of the ancient crafts that would have been a way of life for the Iron Age loch dwellers.

At the beginning of July every year the Kenmore Highland Games are held bringing a celebration of highland dancing and pipe music to the village as well as traditional heavy events such as tossing the caber, putting the shot and tug of war.
