Built by its owners in 2006, this detached family home, settled behind the entrance road, features high vaulted ceilings, oak beams and a beautiful wooden interior. The home boasts open-plan living spaces and a glazed gable looking out to the surrounding woodland and a stream on the south side of the wraparound garden.
On entry, guests are greeted by cosy underfloor heating and a large open-plan living space, dining area and kitchen with ample places to rest and reset. The spacious kitchen is well-equipped for guests, highlighting an electric oven, Nespresso machine and a central kitchen island for catching up over a morning coffee.
The utility room is accessed via the kitchen and has a washing machine, dryer and an extra fridge. The two double bedrooms are accessed from the dining area, with a family shower room placed conveniently in between. Both rooms offer lovely views out to the surrounding woodland and this section of the house contains its own external door.
The spiral staircase then leads you upstairs to the galleried landing and cosy open-plan communal space. Two bedrooms lie on this floor, the master bedroom featuring an en suite bathroom and French doors opening to a Juliet balcony, showcasing the quiet woodlands of Strathyre Forest. The final bedroom also functions as a study and offers a comfortable king-size sofa bed and handy desk.
The garden is partially enclosed, with a stream acting as the boundary on the south side. Guests are welcome to keep bikes in the utility room. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating for 6 for those earlier mornings, watching the sunrise, or the wandering red squirrel and roe deer.
Glenvarloch is just 10 miles from the bustling tourist town of Callander, in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, where outdoor adventure and local delights are readily accessible during your stay.
Hike The Three Bridges route in Callander on a circular walk through Coilhallan Wood, over Gartchonzie Bridge and along part of the Rob Roy Way. Following the Bracklinn Falls and Callander Crags route, where you will find a mixture of waterfalls, views over Callander and surrounding scenery like Scout’s Pool, Ben Ledi, Ben Lomond and the Trossachs to the west.
Cycle out along Loch Katrine, the Loch Ard Loop, or the Rob Roy Loop. Alternatively, set sail and cruise around Loch Katrine on the Sir Walter Scott Steamship and after the adventure, have a bite to eat at The Pier Café. Take a break in the wild sauna and cold plunge pool, all on Venachar Lochside (11 miles). Get your permit and try the multitude of angling opportunities in Loch Lubnaig, Loch Venachar and the Rivers Earn, Tay and Teith. For more sporty activity, there are three local golf courses, St Fillan's, Callander and Comrie. The famous Gleneagles course is just 33 miles away. Glencoe Skiing, Mountain Biking and Sledging resort is just one hour north from the house.
For local Scottish culture, follow the BLiSS trail, a unique sculpture-based tour celebrating art created by locals, with part of the trail extending through Strathyre. When visiting the award-winning Broch café showcasing views out to Ben Sheann, find the Ride Out Seats sculpture or admire Thistle the Heilan’Coo and Drover’s Bho, both brilliant sculptures of Highland Cows, all part of the trail and a mere two-minute walk from Glenvarloch. Travel a short 4-mile drive to Rob Roy MacGregor’s final resting place in Balquhidder.
The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre is the gateway to Queen Elizabeth Forrest Park. With trails suitable for all: gentle strolls and more strenuous routes through lofty woods and rocky crags. Ample car parking, a good cafe and lots of information, this is an ideal place to start exploring the forest park (You'll find the Go Ape here too.) Here you can view red squirrels from the Squirrel Hide and pick up the free orienteering map, covering three courses.
Fuel up on a full Scottish Breakfast at Puddingston Place. After adventures on Ben Ledi, take a break at The Lade Inn, a family-owned restaurant and pub with scenic views overlooking the Corbett, sourcing local food and over 180 Scottish Real Ales. Sit back and enjoy an evening meal at Scott’s Bistro (15 miles) or quench your thirst at The Glenturret Whisky distillery (less than 25 miles).
From hidden gems to national trails, Glenvarloch offers a taste of local life, an abundance of Scottish adventure and a cosy place to call home.
